Grey Summer ft Mr Button | LFW weekend

Lakme Fashion Week ended with a grand finale at St. Xavier’s last week and what a show it was. While my time at fashion week with meeting new people, having some good time with friends as well as some work meetings, I tried to keep it stylish with none other than Mr Button. It was a weekend well spent and Mr Button definitely added the sharpness with the looks they created for me. This is the first one I am going to share here. Read all about the outfit and of course the trends I followed. In the first post, it’s all about how to carry a grey suit in Summers.

When it comes to suits, nothing beats the staples. And by staples, we mean black, navy and grey. Navy and black have always had a general popularity for their adaptability, but grey also emerges as a worthy suit colour choice. In fact, grey suits have become more prevalent in street style, their versatility especially appealing to the younger market. For something clean, understated and classic, a great grey suit does the trick. However grey can also be tricky to perfect. Done right grey reads youthful and modern; done wrong it will leave you looking outdated and frumpy.

A rather trans-seasonal colour, grey has the ability to feel summery as a pastel or more like winter’s fog in a charcoal, smoky hue. And, unlike navy or black, grey looks great for work time formalities or after hours too, launching you into Friday night drinks without needing to head home first.

Having purchased your grey suit, knowing what to wear – from the shirt to the shoes-  needs to feel like child’s play. Otherwise, you’ll still reach straight for Mr. Black, or Mr. Blue – simply because they’re familiar territory. I chose the thin checks grey suit by Mr Button which is light and is of darker tone. The texture is new and light which is something you can try in any weather.

Wearing lighter grey suits can be a softer approach to grey tailoring, and they work phenomenally well for casual wear. The key to embracing lighter grey suits for casual looks is to go for suits that come in lightweight materials and fabrics. Grey cottons are recommended and are a great lightweight option. This will allow a lot more comfort and ease when it comes to casual days and will also afford you flexibility when pairing your suits with t-shirts and lightweight shirts. Pair with white trainers for a relaxed look inspired by recent street style trends. Alternatively, a brighter trainer will draw emphasis to your outfit and inject a dash of colour to your looks. Leather trainers are also a nice addition to a humble dove grey suit, adding a bit more texture. Mumbai heat surely makes you wear as less as possible but I wanted to keep it classy and therefore to keep the zing going, I kept my other elements neutral as well. A white vest with white and blue sneakers surely added that touch of street style I just spoke about.

The great thing about grey is that there is a shade for everyone. Grey is done in different tones and finding the right shade of grey for you to wear is important. Keep in mind your features and colouring when deciding which shades of grey will work, and keep in mind your shirt choice. Lighter marle greys generally work well with blondes and fairer skin tones, whilst darker greys work well to complement those with darker features and tanner complexions. Get inspired by old school grey toned prints and try out a tartan grey. The pattern is traditional, but classic and will add dimension to your take on grey, especially if it is well tailored.

I opted for some basic accessories rather than heavy ones. A sleek silver mesh CK watch, a brown leather sleeve and a cool blue sunglass to sway away from the heat. A touch of beaded wrist band and I was done for the day as well as the night. A floral pocket square and a grey rose lapel pin were the finishing touches for this look.

At the end of the day, light grey isn’t a suit that every man needs — but it’s a color than nearly any man can look good in if he wants to. Adding a light grey suit to the closet gives you a powerful tool for social occasions and a unique chance to stand out in a crowd. So that was all the fun I had on Day 4 of fashion week. Flaunting away the grey suit in style by Mr Button and meeting some old friends, it was a day well spent. Yes, its summers, its hot and we all want to keep it minimal. But try out this look for early evening and you wont be disappointed.  Your girl surely won’t 😉

So here I am signing off, stay tuned for the next look coming soon straight from Fashion Week. Some pop of colors in the next one. Till then, keep it stylish!!
