Summer Resort ft Fervour

Holiday season is never ending for travel enthusiasts. Summers  especially is all about going to a beach and relax while you enjoy the sea shores and sand in your feet. Or even if you take a vacation in a fancy resort and take some sips from your favorite tropical drink while relaxing pool side. Resort wear emerged as one of the biggest trends which we  see every summer season. The fifties saw an increase in travel, along with a renewed interest in sports and modern design, in the midst of a society emerging from the gloomy austerity of the war-tainted forties.

This change in lifestyle called for a more casual style of dress to suit a faster pace of life, warmer climes and athletic pursuits. The polo shirt, now a staple item in the modern man’s wardrobe, epitomises the new relaxed approach to dressing that emerged in this decade. Although the modern polo was first invented in the mid-1920s, it rose to fame in the fifties, with the middle classes aspiring to a Riviera lifestyle and opting for a more casual, athletic wardrobe. Ideal for warm summer days, the simplicity of the polo has ensured the garment has stood the test of time and remains as popular today as ever.

And comes the shorts. Any style-conscious gent will be able to tell you that shorts have been getting increasingly shorter for several seasons now. Trending almost every season now, short shorts, or micro-shorts, were a legacy of 1950s resort wear and films like Anthony Minghella’s The Talented Mr. Ripley show how to pull this look off with panache. A summer essential, bright, printed or pastel are ideal for a considered warm-weather nod to the 1950s.

So here’s my take in collaboration with Fervour featuring Icerberg and Dsquared2, how to dress casually and yet fashionably following the resort trend while you are vacationing at a coastal area.

Tropical prints have been around and I know it gets boring and repetitive. But trying the right colors and right prints is the way to go. While on a trip, it’s always suggested to travel light. So we all want to look our best with the stylish attires but resort is all about keeping it light as well. Materials like mesh, linen and poly cotton are used a lot when it comes to travel clothing. I am wearing here the stylish mesh tee and poly cotton shorts both by Iceberg. Light as air, it will keep you fresh and hydrated while you relax or go for a walk on the beach. The tropical print is all about big patterns this season. It’s bold yet minimal in contrasting neutral shades and that’s what make this tee shirt stand out.

When going to the beach or even chilling next to the pool, you need a best friend by your side. And I am not talking about your bae here. One needs a perfect bag to keep everything intact from your sunscreen to sunglasses to extra pair of shorts and other necessary items. This Dsquared2 bag is made in heaven. This stylish backpack is perfect for a day out even when you are not at a beach. The bright color makes it more apt for a vacation.

When it comes to shoes and other accessories, the mantra is to keep it in line with your destination. For a resort look these mirrored sunglasses does wonder and goes perfectly well with the blues in the outfit. Sneakers is something which you would surely want to keep in your luggage as its comfortable and goes with any outfit you wear on the trip. Keep it minimal with a leather wrist band and don’t accessorize too heavy.

Looking at the past couple of years’ summer collections, it’s obvious that the numerous elements of timeless style that emerged in the past are still influencing the way we dress today. From the classic crew neck to the ever-popular vintage sunglasses to the controversial Aloha shirt, we have seen the casualisation of dress in the past, with an increasingly international outlook and aptness for the modern world. The more relaxed yet refined form of attire that came to the fore during this decade offers the perfect vintage-inspired components for the contemporary gent’s summer wardrobe for this summer vacation season. So where are you going this weekend? Wherever you go, just stay stylish :)
